Questions about Lodge cookware

Have questions? We have answers so you can get back to baking that chocolate chunk cookie. Check out these answers to our most commonly asked questions.

Seasoning is just oil baked onto the pan. This layer of carbonized oil gives cast iron cookware a natural, easy-release finish.

We use 100% vegetable oil to season our cast iron cookware right in the foundry so each item ships to you ready to use, right out of the box.

Simply clean and oil your cookware after every use. Rubbing oil into your pan after each use ensures the seasoning remains intact for quality cooking.

Contrary to popular belief, you can use a small amount of soap to clean cast iron cookware! Large amounts of soap can strip the seasoning off your pan, but you can easily re-season your pan as needed.

Lodge Enameled Cast Iron is cast iron with a smooth, porcelain surface bonded to the iron. Enamel is resistant against acidic and alkaline foods and can be used to marinate, cook, and refrigerate.

Seasoned Carbon Steel cookware is the modern, lightweight cousin to our classic Seasoned Cast Iron. Featuring long, riveted handles, carbon steel pans are ideal for cooking over a grill or open flame. But that's not all! Just like cast iron, carbon steel cookware can also be used on any kitchen cooktop and in the oven. Our Seasoned Carbon Steel pots and pans are made in America and seasoned in our Tennessee foundries.

Learn more about carbon steel

While cast iron cookware is cast in sand molds, carbon steel products are formed by spinning and stamping carbon steel, allowing them to be lighter and thinner than cast iron.

How carbon steel and cast iron compare

It's easy to restore rusty cast iron cookware. Simply scour the surface with warm, soapy water and a metal scouring pad. Apply a very thin, even layer of cooking oil to the cookware. Place the cookware in the oven upside down on the top rack, place aluminum foil on the bottom to catch excess oil, and bake at 450-500 degrees F for one hour.
