The 9" skillet is a great in-between size. Not too big for a smaller kitchen, but big enough to serve up a great meal. It makes a perfect batch of cornbread, and will for decades.

I started carrying one of these while bike touring (they aren't as heavy as people think unless you carry the 10" or larger sizes). It cooked over camp stoves and campfires equally well, and made food on the road so much better! I highly recommend this size when cooking for 1 or 2 while camping, fishing, hunting, bike touring, or any other activity in the outdoors.

This skillet is also a great size for stove use if you don't need the larger capacity of the 10-1/4" Lodge. Again, if you're cooking for 1-2, or using it for side dishes, it works great. If you're cooking 4 chicken breasts, however, I'd recommend getting a 12" skillet and saving this one to cook the smaller dishes.

I've used this for a little more than a year. I am an avid fisherman and use this solely for frying fish in. This retains the heat so well, that I wouldn't consider using anything else for frying fish. It actually changes the texture of the batter versus aluminum skillets. It sticks to the meat much better and gets crispier.
I cooked breaded chicken once or twice and it is the same; it makes the breading stick so much better. Ultimate skillet for frying meats.

My very first cast iron cookware is an 9 inch Lodge Logic pre-seasoned cast iron skillet. This skillet is fantastic for making quick dinners on the stove. I don’t know if it’s only me but I believe that your food comes out much more flavorful when you cook them in a cast iron skillet compared to using just an ordinary pan.
