I love my Sportsman's Grill. I really do. It helps me make the best salsa, grills everything to perfection...

Suggestions: reposition the bail handle so that when carrying by the handle the grill hangs level. It can be irksome to lift the grill only to have the charcoal door fall out. I know this requires a new design, but sometimes redesigning is exactly what's needed.

I often thought that it would be cool if the grill seared the name 'Lodge' into whatever was cooked on it... that would require that the name be backwards on the grill, but that's something to think about too...

And lastly, I think: extend the rim all the way around the perimeter of the grill plane, on both sides, so that things that roll won't roll off, and to provide a teeny bit of 'stop' which helps get a turner under a burger. The only way now to safely remove items from the grill is to use two utensils, one to slide under and one to provide a stop so the food didn't just slide off the grill.

Maybe I'm overthinking things... I just love it that much, I think of little ways it could be improved.

I REALLY want to buy this grill, since I love everything Lodge does...but, this grill REALLY needs a lid! I know it adds to the cost, but it would be worth it. Lodge please at least consider making a lid as an additional accessory to purchase!
I shall wait patiently.

"It says to clean immediately and coat with veg oil. how in the heck do you do that to a hot grill? "

WOW. Are you BLONDE by chance?
The best way to clean a hot grill is to lick it with your tongue.

I've had mine now for couple years now. Built a cider block stand for it in back yard. Use chimney starter directly on bottom grate then pour hot coal on to hardwood chucks inside grill base. Place top grill grate to highest level for steaks. Use disposable pans as covers for steak or chicken to add smoke flavor. Use paper towel with oil to season the top grill grate when hot. Use paper towel will oil again after cooking to wipe dust and ash off outside of grill base. Use stiff paint brush to remove cold ashes in base. Then cover to protect finish. Great for steack, chicken, fish and sausages.

By far the best charcoal grill I have used. Grill is ready in 5 mins. Uses approx. 20-25 charcoal briquettes in 2 layers. The draft door is amazing to control the charcoal burn rate. The grill with 2 settings works well for cooking fish and other meats. I was genuinely surprise at how fast and how well this grill cooks the food. Would recommend to everyone who is looking for a small carry out grill.

This is one fantastic grill. The cast iron heats up and distributes the heat perfectly, the cooking grate makes the classic char marks on the perfectly cooked food. This grill leaves the stamped sheet metal grills in the dust. I agree with some of the other reviews that a cover would be a nice add-on to hold a little smoke and concentrate the heat during windy days. Just one word of warning: If you carry the grill with the wire handle, be sure to to keep it level as the handle can slip off the lugs on the outer edge of the grill and come crashing down. Cast iron and concrete are a bad match up. Great job on this product, Lodge!

I can tell this is going to be a wonderful grill. Unfortunately, the vendor I bought it from (BBQ Guys) did not include assembly directions AND left out one of the parts. I don't even know which part because the packer didn't use the check boxes that were provided! Nor did they provide enough bolts, washers, or nuts. I'm hoping I can find assembly instructions or at least a picture of an assembled grill on your site that I can go by. Nevertheless,
if this product is anything like your other products, once I get it together, I'll enjoy it for many years to come.

Use the heck out of mine ten years running. Sometimes I wish they had a lid though. Other than that. Awesome!!!

Awesome grill to cook on!!!!! Use it so much that the lower grill for the coals is starting to wear.

The one I have rusted so bad. I bought it for my mom for Christmas because I can't have a big grill on my townhouse deck. we have used it 2x's. It says to clean immediately and coat with veg oil. how in the heck do you do that to a hot grill?

This is a great grill! Yes a bit on the pricey side but it stands up to time, providing you take care of it. It should stand up just like the other cast iron products. However I do wish that Lodge Manufacture step up and make an improvement. That is to cast a lid with an adjustable vent as an optional attachment, something like an electric roaster has. You would be surprised what you can do.

I bought my Lodge Sportsman's Grill From a big box store two weeks ago. I have used it every day since. I only use 16 pieces of charcoal for two steaks or chicken or 8 kabobs. I wouldn't sell this grill for $500 if I couldn't replace it. Period! I love my grill...

This thing is the most fun grilling experience I've ever had. Except get the cover. (Caught a stray cat licking it. That grossed me out.L Its the perfect size, perfect design, perfect grilling surface. I like the way the door opens to repkenish the charcoal.

I've had mine for years. Got it when they were a whole lot cheaper. Absolutely the best for grillng two portions. I use the chunk charcoal.

Great grill with excellent heat distribution. However, when by myself and hankering for something on the grill, it is a tad too big. I wish they made one that is similar to the old Habachi's because there is a big market for them, and what's out there today is pure garbage and don't come to Lodge;s quality.

I have an old Sportsman grill that was the forerunner to this one. I gave it to my late fathr in 1969 and it is still in use on my patio. I also have this Lodge grill that I chose as a safety award offered my my employer. This one is in a storage compartment on my motorhome and we use it wile campimg. Both of them cook very well, especially steaks and burgers.

A tad expensive but worth every dime! They last and last & last (they only ask for a little care once in awhile). I've had one for + 10 years and have just cracked open a replacement. You can't go wrong with this gem. Best grill I've ever owned!
