Lodge Signature Series Wins IHA Design Award

12-inch Skillet Surpasses 320 Consumer Items to Claim Gold

New York, NY – Lodge Cast Iron Cookware, America’s Original Cookware Company, won the Best of the Best Gold for the Signature Series 12-inch seasoned cast iron skillet with stainless steel handles during the Fifth Annual International Housewares Association’s Design Award ceremonies held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel on Wednesday, February 6.

The Lodge skillet eclipsed 320 consumer items in 13 categories to claim the award. Lodge was also the winner in the Cookware & Bakeware category.

Introduced to consumers in May 2007, the Signature Series is a rare culmination of century’s old Cookware Foundry Science and Design, and Twenty-first Century engineering. Additionally, several design elements are firsts for the cookware industry:

  • Riveted stainless steel handles to cast iron

  • The riveting process was specifically developed to prevent cast iron shells from cracking during intense pressure from riveting

  • To avoid water entrapment behind attachment points, special high temperature silicon seals and gaskets were created. The Lodge Logo badge, under the primary handle, purposefully floats away from the skillet side to prevent water entrapment, enhancing cleaning accessibility.

  • Primary handles for the skillets and grill pans remain cool-to-the-touch for stove top cooking

The Signature Series 12-inch skillet was selected as one of five finalists by a panel of retailers, practicing designers and consumer press journalists. The Housewares Design Awards are presented by HomeWorld Business, with educational support from the International Housewares Association and sponsorship by George Little Management and DuPont’s Teflon Housewares Group.

The Lodge Signature Series also includes a 10-inch skillet, 12-inch grill pan, covered casserole, 4.5-quart Dutch Oven and 7-quart Dutch Oven. The cast iron cookware is foundry seasoned, making it ready to use upon purchase.

Founded by Joseph Lodge in 1896, the company remains family owned with two great grandsons directing operations. For more information on the oldest family-owned cookware manufacturer in the United States, visit our website, www.lodgemfg.com. Or call 423-837-7181.
